I also had the amazing privilege and opportunity to be on set to assist with styling during the shoot for Essence Magazine. My current beauty obsession...wearing lip color! I know, I know no big deal but if you know me at all, you probably know that I BARELY wear lip color, let alone lipstick. The main reason why I didn't was because well... my smooth is pretty large and I felt anything added to them just made it larger!

However, I've broken out of that crazy notion and after quite a few trial and errors with colors, textures and such I found a perfect hue called Ruby Whoo (didn't rhyme purposely btw lol). So below are a few flicks rocking my new bestie Ruby Whoo along with Cherry lip liner both by MAC cosmetics. Honestly I should have rocked this look sooner because again...if you got it flaunt it, right?! Mmmuuaah!

Hello there FlauntFashionistas (old and new),

Wow it was been way too long since my last post and well...I miss blogging + all of you! The last time I posted on Nov 1st, 2010 was the first day I started my current job...hmm that says a lot huh?! Well tons has happened since then of course, and I can't wait to get back into "flaunting"! In a nutshell I've been managing in retail for over a year (being one of the top stores in my district btw), I'm styling again (mostly assisting) while time permits, I'm working on a clothing line that I can't wait to share more details and sneaky peaks, and I'm currently working on an amazing event to help fund the line...hey times are hard lol! Besides that I'm still single and learning everyday to embrace the sweetness of solitude...especially as I also live alone. Speaking of, January 1st marked a year that I've been in my apartment whoo-hoo! But oddly enough I still haven't had the guts to fully style-out my space with my personal touch boo-hoo...maybe soon it's now 2012... heck-yeah!!

And because we are in a new year this can also mean a new-YOU + a new-ME! There's so much to flaunt so what better time to take advantage again! I won't make any promises however I will try my very best to stay more involved with my blog. Lastly I want to thank everyone that has visited in the past, continue to visit daily (waiting patiently for the next post) now in the presence, and new visitors I hope to meet in the near future. I want to inspire, be inspired, and keep you inspired while taking you through this journey to come!

Hey lovers! Hope you all had a lovely & safe Halloween! This is a quick and dirty post on my costume that I did with my friend Joy. We were the ghetto-fabulous ladies of B.A.P.S! I have to admit this has been by far the most fun costume I have ever made. Everything was bought between downtown to the swat meet and I handmade our jumpsuits. It was so crazy and we got stopped by soooo many people, it was hilarious! Hmmm may consider again next year... Anyway let me know what you think & what were you all for Halloween!?

Ok lovers don't hate me... yes I know I've been away for waaaay too long once AGAIN, yea what's new. I've been busy on top of being sick so it's been kinda wacko lately. Anyway so I'm going to do a quick and dirty post because I had one of the best nights ever this past Thursday night! Hennessy Artistry and my girls from The Honey Collective sponsored an event featuring performances by Q-Tip, VVBrown, and surprise guests MC Lyte and Ice Cube + D Nice!

Here's the deal: I'm not much of a "clubber" and majority of the time I don't even enjoy LA's nightlife for the simple fact that I feel like too much effort is put into getting dressed, and nine times out of ten the night ends up being somewhat boring and just not worth it. However, Thursday night was sooooo worth it, I saw many friends, and everything was free! Free parking, free entry, free liquour, free food, free entertainment and might I add some eye candy, which of course is FREE!

Seriously does it get any better than that for a typical night in LA...um no!

I have to admit... I haven't kept a consistent log on my hair progression. In any case here's a visual and listed update on some of the main things I've been doing with my hair:

1. I love and continue to co-wash.
2. I've tried to down-scale on using my flat-iron.
3. I've worn my hair in it's natural state to really give it a rest.
4. I continue to wrap my hair nightly.
5. I continue to comb/brush from the ends to the root.

I wanted to feature one of my favorite designers Azzedine Alaia, because everything he creates is more than a pair of shoes or an accessory... it's more like a piece of art. Alaia specializes in high-end leather goods and is top-of-the line! The price-point of his pieces typically start in the thousands so it's not that simple to own a pair especially because they aren't sold everywhere. In fact, Alaia is super selective to the boutiques they sell to not to mention the deliveries are somewhat unknown. When a store receives their shipment is when they receive it so imagine the Alaia waiting list! However, if you happen to own anything from his collection one thing for sure, it'll last a lifetime! Looks like this might be my fashion investment piece for 2010 Flaunt Followers!

Over the past 3 months I've been exposed to numerous designers while working at my amazing internship! One of them being the incredible Hussian Chaylan. His designs are pretty straight forward with a slight edgy approach. For his Spring 2010 collection the color palette includes hues of navy, platinum, ivory, ice blue and grey. With clean horizontal lines to mask ones waist-line the silhouette is quite classic and flattering. I really can get enough of this designer so I really couldn't wait to flaunt him today!! I just posted my top 7 personal tips for flawless skin and along with those tips, a very important aspect of having flawless skin is investing in key quality products. Amongst the many great skin-care lines available, I've heard many great things about Perricone MD. Ok so some of you have probably seen my "EVERYDAY Makeup Look" video on youtube and I must admit over time that "look" has gradually changed. Recently what I've added to my makeup routine is defining my eyebrows. Quite honestly, I wasn't into the idea of filling-in my eyebrows (especially when I constantly witnessed horrible examples on others) but I guess it just wasn't done correctly with the right tools. Drawn brows to me always seemed way too defined and appeared unnatural! I really had this misconception about drawn eyebrows until one beautiful day I used LORAC's "Take a Brow" eyebrow kit!

OMG can you say aaaaaammmmaaazzzing. This is by far the best eyebrow kit I've used ever!!! Each shade available includes a lighter and darker color for mixing and variation. It also includes a wax that's great for moulding and defining your brows along with an angled, thin brush for perfect precision. Based on my deep brown to black hair color, I use the Dark Brown shade. I totally recommend that you all try this must-have for yourselves. So now almost everyday I define my brows with this kit only, it's that good! Oh and please, please, please try to ignore the $22 price tag.... don't get me wrong I am frugal okay, but listen when I say this is soooo worth it :)

OMG lovers!!! I know, I know....it's been quite some time since I've posted and I'm soooooo sorry, don't hate me! lol. I really didn't mean to abandon the Flaunt Files but lately I've been working at this new internship...which is amazing by the way.....and my internet access has been a tad limited, not to mention I'm working hard to get the darn store ready to launch (which is run by JUST me) so it's been tough!

I simply wanted to let you all know that I haven't forgotten about ya, and each day that goes by makes me sad to know that my last post was on 3/12 ugh!! Ummm let's see anything else....I'm in the process of a new design project that I'm so excited about and can't wait to share once things begin and become more finalized. I painted my nails a new design using a "blending" method that I'll soon have to do a tutorial on because it was such a process! Oh yea & I was suppppper excited when I won these amazing Shayan Afshar 14kt. rose gold pyramid studs (a style I ironically blogged about) on the site C'est La Vie! Also I'm in a new emotional love space so I'm super focused and again realizing each day that God is so good and my steps are strategically ordered :) Besides that I hope each Flaunt Follower enjoyed their holiday weekend and/or spring break! I LOVE you all and make sure to keep FLAUNTing fabulously!!!!

Ok like promised I'm trying harder to get outfit post up! Today was a bit warmer than yesterday but the winds were still present and messed up my bun....ugh! I've been wearing my hair in it's natural state for 2 1/2 weeks now (yeah me!) trying really hard not to use heat! Also I'm back in LA fyi as if you can't tell! lol. Anyway the store should be up this weekend so expect mostly blazers, a few accessories, and handbags. I know, I know I've been talking about launching the store for months and by now I should have hundreds of stuff!

I got some amazing stuff while I was in Chicago that I forgot to share! The jacket is by far the most amazing leather jacket that I've seen Forever 21 carry. The quality, cut, details, and price are to die for! I've gotten so many complements and even my sister Laura and bestie Samantha grabbed one for themselves! The shades I happen to see in passing and just had to add them to my collection. The chain-like lining is what makes it ultra-chic! And yes, my obsession with pyramids got worse when I saw this dope black and gold pyramid ring! Like really, how amazing right!? Last but not least I almost fainted when I saw this authentic Dooney & Bourke shoulder back which was in mint condition! I have a similar one purchased months ago that was also second-hand. I swear at times I'm like a vintage lucky-charm!

Also sidebar: the reason for lack of outfit post is because lack of camera :( I'm all about quality so I don't want to take bogus-looking hard-to-see pics with my Blackberry or MacBook....sorry. Hopefully soon I'll be able to get a cam to have more outfit post, preferably a Nikon. If you have suggestions in the meantime let me know!

Honestly, I'm not much of a House of Dereon fan until now because the 2010 Spring/Summer collection looks pretty fierce! Bold colors, daring prints, and eye-catching silhouettes are always appropriate for these upcoming seasons and House of Dereon keept that in mind. It seems as if more thought and effort was put into this collection and it definitely comes off as fashion-forward versus their previous collections. Asos launches their line, Asos Africa which is apart of The Green Room collection made of organic and recycled materials and based on free-trade. The line was created with hopes to support trade in Africa and inspired by a recent visit to the mother-land where Asos met with artisans and small producer groups. This line only has a few pieces available as it's selling fast so here are my fav picks that are left to purchase. These beauties embody heavy prints, mixed with bold colors which makes this collection pop and connect with your roots through fashion! While I was watching "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" I admired the dress Kim wore on her bday and how cute (& brave) Kourtney looked in the cream, long-sleeved mini. I also wanted to slap the ish out of Scott b/c he is so immature and foolish! Anywaaaay Kim, Khole, & Kourtney have partnered with bebe to design a collection inspired by....well themselves & their fav designers it seems! I think it's pretty cleaver how the model resembles the girls and adds that ethnic element to the line. Although I'm not a fan of bebe, with the exception of some of their shoes, I wouldn't mind owning and flaunting a few of these pieces. For the most part they're fun, sexy, and somewhat classic. I also like how they kept the fabrics solid and focused more on the structure and movement of the clothing. Some items are currently featured on bebe.com and the entire collection will be presented at New York Fashion Week tomorrow!

Rihanna's new video is out for her 3rd single "Rude Boy" from Rated R. Finally for once it's not dark, scary and too edgy. It kind of reminds me of when she first came out representing her island roots. Anyway all together I thought it was ok, I just think it lacked creativity in the treatment. Sometimes I'm not into the green-screen digital thing ya know, it all starts looking the same. I do like how she paired the Alexander McQueen leggings with the royal blue bustier along with her G-Shock watches that are intertwined to be worn as a bracelet (creative!). Also I guess she's really diggin' her full piece body suits these days! Although this was taped months ago the makeup process is pretty much the same but I do switch back and forth with liquid and pencil eyeliners. I usually stick to liquid and my fav is Loreal's Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner in carbon black.

Hey Flaunt Followers! Sorry for the lack of post but I've been moving, dealing with the status of my family in Haiti, settling in Chicago + more! So I just wanted to let you all know that my mom's side of the family is doing fine and 3 passed away on my dad's. Don't worry about me though as the people in Haiti are suffering much, much more.

So again as of 2 weeks ago I moved to Chicago and will be here for a while but I'm definitely not a stranger to this city as I was born and raised here. It has been 5 years though so it should be interesting to post via The Flaunt Files in another major city! I will admit however I do miss some things about LA already lol. Aside from the 70 degree weather in the middle of winter, I'll miss friends, fam, The Fashion District, Yogurt Land, In&Out, El Torino, traffic (yes.. traffic), the range of vintage/thrift stores & just LA in general :( But don't get me wrong, it's great being back in Chi-town...new energy...new vibes, + I'm able to see & hang out with my family and friends once again!!!

I'm sooooo excited about one of my fav artist, Corinne Bailey Rae who is back and beautiful than ever!!!! She has an amazing album entitled, "The Sea" which is scheduled to come out tomorrow January 26th and I've been playing it over and over via her "listening party" from her site. My fav tracks are, "I'd Do It All Again", "Closer", & "Paris Nights/New York Mornings" to name a few.

Also if you haven't already make sure to check out the video for, "I'd Do It All Again". When I first saw it weeks ago I was totally amazed in how beautiful and angelic she looked and of course loving her full, natural, luscious locks. I also loved the concept of the video that fits the title perfectly.... just simply flawless. Anyway make sure to get a sneak listen of her album & get it when it hits the stands tomorrow! It'll be perfect and just in time for Valentine's Day next month whether you have a significant other or not :)

My 1st Thrift Store finds in Chicago!

So now that I'm in Chicago of course I had to be on the look-out for the local vintage & thrift stores. So just last week I happen to notice a thrift store literally down the street from my house as I was leaving the drug store. Simply going there wasn't apart of my original plan so I didn't have much time to browse around. Ha, like that's ever a problem.... usually that's when I end up finding the best stuff! So of course I did & above are the things I walked away with!!

I love the painting I found for just $3.99 that also ironically symbolizes me in a way. It's fashion-forward, ethnic, strong, and vintage! I'm also using it as the inspiration for my room that I'll be decorating which already has yellow walls to tie in the yellow scarf she's wearing! Both purses were $4.99 and the cuff was the most expensive at $7.99! I think I did pretty well considering I was there for only 10mins and spent about $20 total! Ugh I wish I had more time b/c I know there were waaaaay more goodies waiting to be found!

What fathoms me the most is Haiti is the poorest, least developed country in the Western Hemisphere, and most Haitians have lived in poverty for years. This means that the government has limited capacity to even offer basic needs, not to mention to aid a disaster of this magnitude. The lack of infrastructure, disaster preparedness and the amount of poverty is what makes this situation hard to approach. Honestly all I can do is pray for the victims, my family and those that are working to help in Haiti.

Flaunt Favorite Lines: Tory Burch

As I mentioned before over the long Holiday weekend I found some amazing vintage pieces for the ShopTheFlantFiles store. I also made a quick stop to my old job, Tory Burch on Robertson because I was in the area and it's been quite sometime since I dropped and said hello to my former co-workers. I happen to go during the Black Friday frenzy and completely forgot about it until I walked in! Everyone looked super busy of course because there were tons of women trying to stock up on shoes + more due to the amazing sale. Speaking of shoes I WISH I was able to stock-up myself :) Tory's collections are amazing right now and although I try to visit the site often I saw a few pairs that were new to me. Here are some of my favs I saw in-store that are freakin' amazing! Definitely stop by your local Tory Burch Flaunt Followers, or your nearest high-end dept store! Flaunt Film: "Lil Girl" ft. Fatima by Shafiq Hasayn

So a while back I filmed a lip singing role for Shafiq Husayn's music video "Lil Girl" ft Fatima for his project "En-A-Free-Ka". Shafiq happens to be a friend of a friend so a few of my other friends were also featured! Mind you we were asked last min so I literally had to learn the entire song on the drive over & it was not easy! So now I have an even greater appreciation for real artists :) Any-whoo here's the video which features Avriel Epps with cameo appearances from Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Jay Electronica, Thundercat, and Wood Harris. Everyone looks absolutely beautiful and the final edit looks amazing, shout out to Greg Ponsting! What do you think of the video & can you find me Flaunt Followers lol?! (hint: 0:24, 0:30...) I love, love, love, love, love, love, love, nOir jewelry! lol From the prices to the design, everything about this line is freakin' amazing! I've been meaning to blog about nOir (which means black in french) a long time ago as I own a few pieces bought from the boutique I used to manage, House of Petro Zillia. So I apologize for the delay if you don't know about it yet :)

nOir Jewelry is probably the best costume jewelry worth spending any money on plus some of the pieces are gold plated so you can get the most wear out of your gorgeous gems! They carry rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and many celebs have been seen flaunting them out and about. Ranging from about $50-$250 it's not too difficult to save up & eventually own one of these beauties for yourselves!

Here are a few of my favorites from their current collection which is now sold online. Honestly I would post each one because I love them so much, but I had to narrow it down. Seeing Rihanna in her performance outfit was confirmation that yet again she can get away with just about anything! I mean really... who else could pull-off that risky outfit like she did!? Also I absolutely loved her origami inspired dress she wore on the red carpet along with Leona's and Alicia's ensembles ...these ladies know how to flaunt well for sure!

Last night I went to see Little Dragon! I got there a little late but just in enough time to catch the last song in the set. Smirnoff sponsored the drinks but after just a few sips I realized I was on the verge of getting sick so I immediately got a glass of vitaminC on the rocks lol! Also right before leaving the event I headed to the restroom and ran into Martine of ilovemartine.blogspot.com aka :) I commented on her cropped American Apparel top and that's when I realized it was her. She was so sweet and super cute! It was an awesome event, free drinks, cool people, life-size PACman, and dope music, what more can you ask for!

Have you heard or seen this product BeFine! If not let me be the first to introduce you. It's such an amazing beauty line with face cleansers, moisturizers, facial mask, lip care and more. My favorites from this line are the Warming Clay Mask with gardamom, arnica, & pomegranate, which actually gets warmer once applied. Along with the Gentle Cleanser with sugar, mint, oats & rice that has done wonders for me and removes makeup so well, plus the Lip Exfoliator with oat protein, sesame oil & pineapple which smoothes and gets rid of dead skin especially now in this weather!

What's also really great about BeFine is that each product is of natural ingredients that we find in healthy foods we eat plus it's paraben free, allergen free, and fragrance free. Some may argue that's it's a little pricey but it's so worth it and you can difinatly feel the difference! I've also used the Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15, rosemary, pomegranate & rice, the Pore Refining Scrub with coconut jojoba & citrus, the Lip Serum with chamomile and beets, and the Neck Cream with mushroom, iris flower & caffeine. Honestly if I could use this entire line forever I would... it's that good!

Monday was Glamour Magazine’s 2009 ‘Women of The Year’ Honors, which took place at Carnegie Hall in New York City. All the honorees looked fabulous flaunting their beautiful ensembles while accepting their awards. Rihanna was honored for her advocacy on domestic violence; Maya Angelou was awarded Lifetime Achievement, along with Serena Williams, Laura Ling and Euna Lee who were also honored for their achievements. Other guest included actress Kerry Washington, model Liya Kedebe, model Iman + many more! I love Iman's platform heels and Rihanna's dress is to die for!
